Week 16 Final

Today in class we presented the final changes that we made to the website. When viewing it on the screen I noticed a lot of the things that weren't on my screen appeared. Some of  the things that happened and need to be changed are as follows.

  • The nav looks too generic
  • the header needs to ban all the way across
  • the nav font needs to be bolder
  • the icons in the footer need to be clickable
  • The parallax needs to ban all the way across.

Week 16 Outside of class

some of the changes that I made outside of class was as follows
  • Adding bans of color across the page
  • condensing the information on the grants page
  • adding an info graphic to help break up content
  • adjusting all the different sizes in mobile

Week 16A

Today in class one of the important things that I was focusing on was getting the feedback from my peers and making the changes. some of my feedback was as follows.

  • Make the header images more visible
  • add some more style to the nav bar
  • make sure that the yellow is used consistently
  • make sure the icons have padding on the grants page
After recieving some of that feedback I made the changes

Week 15 Outside of class

Some of the things that I changed over the weekend was mainly making more content for the page. I had to do a lot more work on the about page and on the grants page. One of the main issues i ran into was going back to put bans in after the initial foundation was already made. I was really trying to make the parallax ban all the way across the screen, but it was messing with my footer so I had to take it out.  Also I received the feedback to change my icons again so I decided to make them monochromatic and also add circled to add some division.

I also decided to make the welcome image more styled.

Week 15B

This class I didn't accomplish too much due to the fact that I had a doctors appointment and left midway through. But what I did do was meet to see what changes I needed to make to my website.

  • Edit the nav bar font
  • adjust the line height
  • Make sure that theres space with the roll overs
  • Make the center title all caps
  • Look on awesome fonts for icons

Week 14 Outside of Class

This week outside of class was mainly trying to make my icons look better. I was having a lot of problems trying to make the icons look uniform on my grants page. I keep having to go back and look at all the different ways that I can create flat graphics.

One of the other things that I decided to change was the overall size of the graphic on the page. With the yellow ones, I decided to decrease the overall size of the icons as well.

Week 14 B

Today in class we did another 1 hour web exercise. This one was in order to re-vamp Venice pizza. One of the things my partner Meredith and I wanted to do was go for a more bolder approach. We wanted a bold header and a bold footer. So we decided to incorporate some of the images of the food that they serve, and some of the promotions that they offer.
Some of the elements that I made was the Footer and the Header. Meredith mainly focused on changing around some of the typography and some of the content. The hardest things that we had to deal with was working with an embedded css. Neither of us had ever seen one of those before, so we weren't really familiar with the way things worked within the code. So something as simple as moving the content to the place that it should be was a little harder than usual.

Week 14 A

Today in class we did a exercise for some extra credit points. What we had to do was make a mock website in one hour. What we had to do was remake the rainbow daycare website, while using all the different tools that we were taught. One of the only restrictions was not being able to use a rainbow shape at all. So one of the things that Brynna and I decided to do was make the rainbow a dominant overlay on all of our images. Also one of the things that the website had a lot of was hand prints and images, so we decided to merge the two elements into one.

some of feedback that we received was to make some of the rainbow overlays a little lighter so that they would all match. Also the header could be more effective if there was a title over it or maybe a mission statement.

Week 13 A

Today in class we wer really working on developing some more of my headers. Some of the feedback that I got was to keep the text a consistant aspect on all of the pages that I had a header for. At first I was going to just have the logo on the homepage, and no text on the others. But, I realize that its better to lable all the pages the same. Im having a little bit of problems where it comes to making the grant page. All of the content is the same size, and all the headers are coded the same way. But for some reason the grants page looks very different from the others.

Week 12A

Today I spent a lot of time making the other two pages in axure. This was pretty easy considering the fact that I already had most of my content planned out the way I wanted it to be laid out. The most difficult part was making sure I had all my content on the appropriate page. So one of the most difficult sections that I was having problems with was making sure I had the sponsors on the right page. So after making some adjustments I decided that the sponsors would make the most sense on the grants page, since you need a sponsor in order to fill out a grant.

Week 11 B

Today in class we spent most of or time making sure that all the content was in axure correctly. This meant making sure that the information that we wanted to have included on each page is indeed on there. It was more along the lines of laying out the boxes with placeholders in order to display content.

Week 11 A

This class was all about making a wireframe in the program axure. I took the time to work on making sure my touch points were what i wanted them to e and to make sure I was staying on track. My three touch points are as follows:

  • Educating people on what the mission statement is about.
  • To show how people can access the grants hat are in place.
  • To show appreciation to those who sponsor the programs.
For the most part my layout was sticking to the touch points that I wanted to include, But I also need to make a few revisions so I can show what I plan on doing with the space.

Also in class we received some feedback on our prototype that we made over the weekend. some of the feedback I received was:
  • to make the icons have more of a style to them.
  • to try and match the font to a similar one in my logo.

Week 10 Outside of class

Outside of class was spent finishing the visual inventory and the sparkbox template. This really got me thinking as to what  wanted images to look like, and how I wanted my websites content to appear. One of the first things I started on was remaking the logo so that I would have a more updated and vector version. I also pulled some images off the foundations facebook page so that I could include the real impact that the non profit has. One of the only things that I would work on is my typography choices in the sparkbox.

Week 10 A

Today class was spent working on finishing up the visual inventory. This meant completing all the research and deciding on the tone that I wanted my website to have. I did find the tone aspect to be the most helpful since it encompassed all of the elements from the other sections. I think that this is something that i will have to think about when designing all my future websites and not just the one for the non profit. By having a guide to follow with this section I think that it will prompt me to think about if the other elements all work together.

Week 9B

Today in class we worked more on the visual inventory. The one thing I like about dong this is that its forcing me to get my ideas together. Instead of just looking at one website and deciding to model mine after that one and that one only, this is allowing me to piece together all of the elements that I like from several websites. This is interesting due to the fact that you my not like the overall look of just one singular website and may want to combine elements.

Most of the work I did today was on the color section. I started looking into what types of looks I wanted my website to have. I really started thinking about how I would make the icons and info graphics pop on the website. This prompted me to lean more towards the brest  awareness site. They use an all black background to make the colors pop.

Week 9A

Today in class we worked on making the visual inventory.  This meant that most of class I spent time researching a bunch of websites that had good design. The section that I got done today was the concept section. Im thinking that I want the the website to be more organized and showcase the work that they have been doing for the city of Philadelphia.

Week 8 Outside of class

Today I called my non profit for the Philadelphia cultural fund. When I called I spoke to a woman named Diane who gave me some very helpful information. One of the first questions I asked Diane was what their nonprofit was all about. She said that they are trying to supply people with their tools for grants in one location. What the program is all about is all of the arts and it’s a very broad overview. She talked about how if people qualify and meet their guidelines they wouldn’t have access to the grants that they have in place. And not only are they grants to their organization but also through the city of Philadelphia. The next question I asked her was what she would change about the website. She informed me that the website was going through a makeover and would launch at the beginning of next year. So I then asked her what were some of the changes that would vary from the current design. Basically they’re working to place more images on their website to help show people the message with visuals.  Also they are going to include some info graphics and all in all make their website look more up to date. Another important question that me and Diane discussed was, why does she think the website needs to be updated? She went on to talk about how she feels like it does not accurately represent what their all about, she feels as if the website needs to look more like it was made in 2019 without appearing too flashy since they are still a nonprofit.

The nonprofit that I decided to reach out to was WOAR ( women organized against rape). When I called i was connected to one of the hotline workers who did not give her name. I then explained to her my reason for calling and reaching out to the organization. I did grt to ask her one of my questions which was what she wanted her website to broadcast. She then replied that it was trying to deliver some of the events and things that the nonprofit offers. Also she began to discuss some of the other services that they have that can be found on the website. When i went to ask my next question which was more design related I then was transferred to the person who was in charge of designing the website and I received no answer but left a message.

The last non profit that I reached out to was Urban Affairs Coalition Which went exactly like WOAR. When I called I was connected to someone who worked at the front desk.Once I gave them my name and my purpose for calling they then connected me to the person who is in charge of the website. The  phone rang and I was then greeted by an answering machine, I left a message and I am still waiting on a response.

Week 8B

https://www.philaculturalfund.org/about/background-mission/

For a website that is supposed to be all about funding the arts of Philly i feel like they have a very bland website. I feel like a more stylish approach will help them out in the long run. If they are helping kids around the city embrace their artistic abilities why not have some of that be reflected in their website.

http://vamosjuntos.org
This is a non-profit dedicated to educating the latino community in South Philadelphia. They focus on providing different resources to the community. Their website is a place to go for information on whats going on in the community. One of the main things i would like to focus on with this website is the fact that they would like to live freely despite their immigration status.

https://www.woar.org/
This a nonprofit for women against rape. They give a lot of empowerment to women who have . gone through some horrible things in their lives. I feel like this website does have to have a more serious tone to it due to the subject matter, but that doesn't mean it has to be so bland.

Week 8 A

Today in class is where the final project as due. Overall I am happy with the way my website turned out, it really hows a lo of growth in my coding skills. However there were a few things that i could not get to work but wish I could have.

  • The footer scaling in mobile
  • The header image scaling in mobile.
  • The margins of the sides of things without messing up the overall format of the columns.

Some of the feedback that I got from my peers was relatively the same.
  • work on the different media sizes.
  • make sure the footer has its repeat on.
  • good color scheme
  • try cutting the images out on the recipes page so that there aren't harsh edges
  • try matching the same font for the whoopie pie to the free admission page

Week 7 Outside of class

The biggest part that I got done this weekend was the events page. I didn't really have any of it done before the weekend started and I was nervous about getting this part done. The only thing that i had completed was the icons for the page. I still had to code the entire thing. Throughout this process i as having the biggest problem of getting my boxes to show up. The funny thing was I didn't have my css linked this.

Week 7 B

This was the last class until the project is due I got a lot of feedback on changes that will be made in order to make the website look more cohesive.

  • maybe change the footer t have more than just the tents ( try some milk and whoopie pies)
  • try moving the nav bar to the top of the screen
  • make image backgrounds on the recipes page
Most of this feedback is very little things but some I dont think I have enough time for.  I dont think i want to risk trying to move my navbar at this stage in the game due to the fear of it not working anymore.
One of the changes that I did make was removing the colored background in order to have it look a little better and less harsh.

Week 6B

Peer Feedback

  • Make the illustrations have white cream in the whoopie pies
  • turn the repeat off on the footer
  • take the black box off the nav bar
  • nice illustrations
  • make sure there is more hierarchy
  • no color in image with date
After receiving the peer feedback I decided to make some changes according to what they suggested.

Week 6A

Today in class I was working on getting more content into the website. For the most part it wasn't too bas but I am having some style issues. I don't know what I want to do with the first section. It seems a little bit too repetitive with the images of whoopie pies.

Week 5B

Today in class we spent a majority of the time working on getting the code to look more like the overall vision of the website. This included trying to make sense of the code. This meant that I had to make some adjustments to the code. I mainly spent class trying to center my other third divs under the first row. In order to make this easier for myself i had to spend time re organizing my code, because I found it a little hard to read.
The solution to my problem was the fact that I needed to create two columns  that would he halfs underneath the thirds. and add the padding to the sides in order t center it under neath the blank spaces.

Week 5A

This class we learned more about some elements of responsive code. The main thing that I enjoyed about this class was the pace in which it was taught. I feel like normally the speed of coding demos causes me to be confused most of the time, but for once i finally understood. Not only did we have it demoed on the screen. I was also able to have an example where i was able to do it myself. that is what i think really helped me understand.
Now my exercise still had a problem that I could not figure out exactly what was happening. So I went back in order to try and get a better understanding and I still couldn't quite figure out what i was doing wrong. Since I was using sublime it does show when I have a problem, and there was no detection of a problem.

Week 5 Outside of class

This week outside of class was very interesting. Normally I am having trouble when it comes to coding and getting everything to be in the right space. But the main problem that ive been running into with this project is the cohesive aspect. Ive noticed that its hard for me to decide if I want to go with more of an illustrated look or add more photos to go along with the header style.

Here you can see a side by side look at what I was thinking, I feel like I can depict the launch in a way that does not need a photo.

Also for the homework we had to begin laying out our content using colorful boxes.
Some of the boxes got a little confusing so I did have to start adding some of the content in order to make it look right.

week 4 outside of cass

This week outside of class was spent configuring some of the possible ways the font will look on the webpage. I did find this website somewhat hard to use, but I ultimately did get it to work somewhat and I decided to use roboto for all of the body copy and stick to a font with more variations for the headers.

Also I decided on the final version of my mood board to include a few more images for the overall child aspects for the website.

Lastly I spent outside of class working on the postcards for the whoopie pie fest which requires a lot of time that I didn't think they would. The main reason i sent so much time on the post card is due to the fact that i was exploring several diffrent ideas for the front. One of which involved a child climbing the front of a whoopie pie. This idea didn't go very far due to the fact that it didn't truly capture the adult aspect of the festival as well. So I decided to do a photoshoped montage of different photos (some that I took of the event) and put them all on the front.

I spent a lot of time testing a bunch of different color schemes trying to see what makes the most sense. So I ultimately decided on using the same cream color from the whoopie pies for the text and border in order to keep that cohesive.

Week 16 Final

Today in class we presented the final changes that we made to the website. When viewing it on the screen I noticed a lot of the things that ...
