Week 6A

Today in class I was working on getting more content into the website. For the most part it wasn't too bas but I am having some style issues. I don't know what I want to do with the first section. It seems a little bit too repetitive with the images of whoopie pies.

Week 5B

Today in class we spent a majority of the time working on getting the code to look more like the overall vision of the website. This included trying to make sense of the code. This meant that I had to make some adjustments to the code. I mainly spent class trying to center my other third divs under the first row. In order to make this easier for myself i had to spend time re organizing my code, because I found it a little hard to read.
The solution to my problem was the fact that I needed to create two columns  that would he halfs underneath the thirds. and add the padding to the sides in order t center it under neath the blank spaces.

Week 5A

This class we learned more about some elements of responsive code. The main thing that I enjoyed about this class was the pace in which it was taught. I feel like normally the speed of coding demos causes me to be confused most of the time, but for once i finally understood. Not only did we have it demoed on the screen. I was also able to have an example where i was able to do it myself. that is what i think really helped me understand.
Now my exercise still had a problem that I could not figure out exactly what was happening. So I went back in order to try and get a better understanding and I still couldn't quite figure out what i was doing wrong. Since I was using sublime it does show when I have a problem, and there was no detection of a problem.

Week 5 Outside of class

This week outside of class was very interesting. Normally I am having trouble when it comes to coding and getting everything to be in the right space. But the main problem that ive been running into with this project is the cohesive aspect. Ive noticed that its hard for me to decide if I want to go with more of an illustrated look or add more photos to go along with the header style.

Here you can see a side by side look at what I was thinking, I feel like I can depict the launch in a way that does not need a photo.

Also for the homework we had to begin laying out our content using colorful boxes.
Some of the boxes got a little confusing so I did have to start adding some of the content in order to make it look right.

week 4 outside of cass

This week outside of class was spent configuring some of the possible ways the font will look on the webpage. I did find this website somewhat hard to use, but I ultimately did get it to work somewhat and I decided to use roboto for all of the body copy and stick to a font with more variations for the headers.

Also I decided on the final version of my mood board to include a few more images for the overall child aspects for the website.

Lastly I spent outside of class working on the postcards for the whoopie pie fest which requires a lot of time that I didn't think they would. The main reason i sent so much time on the post card is due to the fact that i was exploring several diffrent ideas for the front. One of which involved a child climbing the front of a whoopie pie. This idea didn't go very far due to the fact that it didn't truly capture the adult aspect of the festival as well. So I decided to do a photoshoped montage of different photos (some that I took of the event) and put them all on the front.

I spent a lot of time testing a bunch of different color schemes trying to see what makes the most sense. So I ultimately decided on using the same cream color from the whoopie pies for the text and border in order to keep that cohesive.

Week 4 B

Today in class was spent working on the ideation for a postcard for the Whoopie pie festival. This involved combining some of the elements that would be necessary in order to create the postcard. I decided to create a custom photo montage of all the different things that represented the festival. After merging all the images i decided to work on choosing a sepia tone for the background

Week 4 A

This class we had to have a finished mood board and some layout sketches for our website. At first when I made my mood board I was including too many things that were to directly link to the website.  was being too literal and not quite getting the mood of the festival. So I later revised the first one that I had into making two more variations. I was starting to play around with including some of the different icons and the colors that I would be using

Then after thinking about it and receiving some feedback, I realized that I needed to focus more on the mood that the people would be in when they got to the festival. Soi looked into some of different activities that go on at festivals that people attend.

Week 3 Outside of class

This week outside of class was spent making mood board and sketching out the content that we would include in the app. This was an interesting process since the mood boards couldn't contain the main elements of the website.

Web: will be containing the logo and the navbar at the top, then there will be the main headline of when the event will be happening.

Tablet: This will take away the div that centers the information within the are and just have the center information going straight down.

Mobile: this is all about condensing things and having them go straight down the page

Week 3 B

Today in class we went over how we were going to organize content on the website. I Received a bunch of feedback on which pages I should include and which pages I could get rid of. The biggest changes that I think will be made is making pages that contain the same information be on the same page.
Basically this class was all about me working on consolidating pages and deciding what I can group together.

Week 3A

Today in class was spent learning about what others thought needed to be improved with the website. It was interesting seeing what my peers though needed to be changed as well. It was basically a way of conforming that I was on the right track. One interesting piece of feedback that I got was with the Search this website feature. I was on the side of removing the feature completely considering the fact that it's not typical for websites that i've seen to contain something like this.
Instead of removing the feature I think that i will move it twords the upper righthand corner.

Week 2 Outside of class

Outside of class this week was spent working on the two personas that would be used to reflect the people visiting the website. The problem that I ran into was attempting to contact the event. I reached out several times over the course of the weekend and I was not able to reach anyone. The part where I got lucky was the fact that the event was this weekend and it was local so I was able to attend. This is where I was able to gather some first hand information for my personas.

After observing all the people at the festival I compiled information for my primary and secondary Persona. The main contrast between the two is the age groups that I saw there. I made both of them women who had some type of affiliation with kids since thats what i saw mostly at the festival. With that being said, I also saw more older women and thats why I made my primary persona 60. It also goes along with the navigation concerns that I had not the website. I feel like making it an overall easy experience would be beneficial for someone older.

Design Something

The Whoopie pie festival had a very large attendance. You could tell by the fact that they made 4,500 whoopie pies for the event. I found that to be the most remarkable thing. So with that information, I had to observe what all people had in common and what everyone needed out of a website. One thing that I observed was the fact that there was a bunch of families so I know that for the color palette i want something fun and happy. Whenever there's an atmosphere for kids it seems like most color palettes aim towards more of a primary scheme, but I am looking to communicate family fun without being so basic. I also think When revamping the logo  I want to stick towards the same design. I feel like many would want to make a mascot for this event but I think I'm going to stay away from that since there are also a lot of adults that attend this event also. The hard part here is trying to make a website that draws in kids but also is good for adults too. While at the event I realized that there were adults and teenagers there for the same enjoyment, so clearly this event is not all about kids. For the typography, I am so far leaning towards a more script font for the logo. I think that this would be the best considering that this is the only place that I intend to use a script font thus far. I think that using it sparingly would be a great touch for this website. Also, I will be using a typeface with a large font family for the body copy and the rest of the website. I feel like I want to do that considering the fact that there is a lot to talk about. From the crafts and the other events that go on at the festival, I want to make sure that I have a wide range of fonts that will help me establish hierarchy throughout the website. Another big change that I will be making is taking away the secondary navigation on the left of the screen. I feel like making the one at the top the main source to navigate the website would be the best choice, since this is what people are mainly familiar with. I also think by choosing to have this at the top of the website, it will make it easier for older people to use, considering the fact that they can rely on having the access points always be at the top of the screen. Overall I think that there are some things that need to be changed in order for this website to be universal. I think that making a more cohesive color palette and by diminishing the number of fonts used will be very beneficial to making this site more appealing.

Week 2 B

Today in class we narrowed it down to which event website we would be redesigning. I ended up picking the website for the whoopee pie festival. Overall this one was the chosen one due to the content that it had in place. There was a lot of information that I would be able to make something out of. There was a bunch of pictures and also a lot of written content. The biggest things that I will be focusing on changing will be the navigation. I feel like it is very hard to figure out which one to use considering the fact there are two separate nav bars.

After picking this website I was able to go and follow through on the contacting aspect of the project. I called the number provided on their website and one their Facebook page and got no answer for any extension that I contacted.

Week 1 Outside of class

Monday: We were assigned an article to read and I actually kinda liked it. It made me think about some different design constraints that I didn't even realize were in front of me all along. The article brought up the fact that some people use their game console to access the internet. which means viewing the internet from the tv which is clearly a completely different experience than viewing on a phone.

Wednesday: In class, we began researching websites to redesign for the first project of the semester. The website had to be for ann event and had to contain enough information to adjust the pages accordingly.

The first event website that I think is in need of a redesign is for Avo Fest. I think this website is in need of redesigning for a few reasons. For one I think that It is very plain. Something that has over 100,000 visitors, I think that there can be a lot more done. For example, the header on the website is just a solid green rectangle, I feel like there are so many pictures that could be in the header that could make it more appealing. Also, another improvement that could be made is with the navigation. I feel like some of the individual tabs can be consolidated. I don't think that it's necessary for there to be a separate gallery tab and a separate page for posters. I think that they could easily just have separate pages for galleries. The most important thing that I think should be changed is the fact that there is no about me page. I think that this could be a simple change of the logo being clickable. They do have the about me information on the side of pretty much any page that you access. Which I think needs to be changed. I really don't think its necessary to have every page be split into a two-page layout.

The second website that I think needs to be redesigned is for the amazing maze. I have found a couple problems with this website the first one being with accessing the info. Now, this is a website that is for the corn maze, it is linked from the event pages through lancaster.com and Google event pages. So its like they want it to stand as a separate website, but they have it as a hard to find page on the website for a farm. Also, the page really isn't able to stand alone considering that there is once again two sets of navigation on the page. It is very confusing. Also, I noticed that the typography on the page is lacking hierarchy and you can't tell which information is the most important. Also, they have very intense blurred drop shadows on some of the words which makes it hard to read.

Another website website that I would choose is for taste the world. I think that an important part for this one is the gallery. I think that most people when it's concerning food eat with their eyes first. You want to see the type of food that you will be eating and also the quality. So I think for something like a food festival you want to see the gallery as an option. They do have some images on the homepage but they are also sharing the image with testimonies from people who have attended the festival which I think the images should have their own separate aspect. Also, I believe that the logo doesn't need the additional information to the side of it. I think that the logo should be the only thing in the header. With the additional information at the side, it could easily be on an about the event site page somewhere.
https://whoopiepiefestival.com/

Another website that I think can benefit from a revamp is for the whoopie pie festival. One of my biggest problems with this website is the fact that there is info all over the place. It seems like there is no hierarchy anywhere. I'm running into the same critique that I had with the avocado website. Its mainly that, I feel like a website that is reaching a large audience should be easier to navigate. I've also noticed that a lot of websites also like to throw information that should be in an about section into the header of the page, which i think is also a little confusing. Another thing is the navigation is a little confusing. there is a navigation bar at the top of the website and there is also one on the right hand side of the page. So it seems a little repetitive to me. I feel like if the nav bar at the top of the screen was doing its job then there would be no point for a secondary one on the right side of the screen. So if I were to remake this one I would definitely do away with one of them most likely the one on the right.

Week 16 Final

Today in class we presented the final changes that we made to the website. When viewing it on the screen I noticed a lot of the things that ...
